Synaptics Overview

Synaptics is a developer of human interface (HMI) hardware and software, including touchpads for computer laptops; touch, display driver, and fingerprint biometrics technology for smartphones; and touch, video and far-field voice technology for smart home devices and automotives. Synaptics sells its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and display manufacturers. Synaptics established an R&D center in Israel following an establishment of two Israeli companies, DSP Group and emza Visual Sense.

Israel's DSPG to be acquired by Synaptics for $600 million

American electronics company Synaptics announced its intentions to acquire Israeli audio systems manufacturer DSPG for about $600 million. The acquisition price of $22 per share is 18% higher than its trading value on the previous Friday. DSPG shares spiked 17.1% in early trading. The acquisition was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies. DSPG is a publicly traded company that manufactures voice recognition technology embedded in various chips used in smart home products and voice activation products. The acquisition is expected to add $30 million in revenue per year for Synaptics. The market value of Synaptics prior to the acquisition was $7 billion.
