LakeFS brings branching to data lakes
LakeFS has announced the general availability of their service, LakeFS Cloud, which offers the opportunity to create and track different versions of data, similar to how developers organize code using Git. The service sits on top of the data lake and provides a consistent interface for managing data. LakeFS is designed to work with object stores like S3 and different data management systems like Snowflake or BigQuery. It allows teams to track different branches of data and merge them when necessary, eliminating the need for complete copies and reducing confusion and storage costs. Several other database companies are also offering similar approaches, but LakeFS differentiates itself by working at a lower level with arbitrary object storage and being format agnostic. Investors in LakeFS include Dell Technologies Capital, Norwest Venture Partners, and Zeev Ventures.
